Starlink Longer Cable: When You Need One and What to Do When It Is Not Enough
The cable between the dish and the router is a proprietary run, and Starlink sells longer replacement cables for installations where the supplied length does not reach. It is a straight replacement rather than an extension — you swap the whole run.
This distinction matters more than it sounds. The cable cannot be spliced, joined with couplers, or extended with generic cable. Attempts to do so produce exactly the intermittent, hard-to-trace faults that get misdiagnosed as hardware problems for months.

What it is best for
- Dishes on a pole away from the building
- Runs that cross an attic or basement before reaching the router
- Outbuilding mounts where the router is in the house

Limitations worth knowing
- There is a maximum available length — beyond it, a different design is needed
- Cannot be spliced, joined or extended with third-party cable
- Longer runs still need protecting from UV, abrasion and mechanical damage
- Replacing the run means re-routing the whole cable, not just adding to it
In Alberta conditions
Longer runs mean more exposed cable, and more exposed cable means more opportunity for cold-weather damage. Bend radii need to be generous throughout, the run needs supporting so ice and snow load cannot pull it taut, and every clip should be UV-stable — cheap plastic clips fail after a couple of Alberta seasons and let the cable sag.
