Non-Penetrating Starlink Roof Mounts
A non-penetrating mount is a frame that sits on a flat roof and is held in place by ballast — usually concrete blocks — rather than by fixings. The dish attaches to it, and nothing penetrates the roof at all.
For commercial buildings this is frequently not just the tidiest option but the only acceptable one. Penetrating a flat roof membrane without the roofing contractor's involvement can void the roof warranty, and on a commercial building that is a significantly larger financial risk than the installation itself.

What it is best for

Limitations worth knowing
- Only suitable for flat or very low-slope roofs
- Ballast is heavy — the roof must be able to carry the point load
- Needs correct ballast sizing for the site's actual wind exposure
- Bulkier than a fixed mount, and more visible on a low parapet roof
In Alberta conditions
Ballast weight is the thing that gets under-specified here. Guidance written for milder regions under-estimates what an exposed Alberta roof sees, and an upper-storey commercial roof or an open prairie site needs substantially more ballast than a sheltered residential specification. Ice loading adds to it further. This is worth engineering rather than estimating.
